Americans dock Rottweilers’ tails, and their fur is medium in length with coarse, straight hair. They have an undercoat that can only be seen on their neck and thighs. In addition, this breed is a moderate shedder throughout the year.

Industrialization may have played a part in the almost-extinction of the Rottweiler breed. Rotties were herding dogs and if cattle doesn’t need to be herded, the dogs are not needed. This happened around the middle of the 1800s as railroads were built and roads paved, making it easier to transport herds. Fortunately, lovers of the breed worked to keep the Rottweilers around and by the 1900s a new job for these now “working” dogs was established. Rottweilers began serving as police and military dogs.

Immediately following the terror attacks of 9/11, rescue dogs were deployed with handlers to the Twin Towers site. Rottweilers bravely searched along with other breeds like the German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers.

Many celebrities love dogs of all breeds, but some only have eyes for the loving and loyal Rottweiler. Celebrities who love their Rottweilers include Bruno Mars, Hayden Panettiere, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith. Will Smith and his family actually own several.

  • In my opinion, the Rottweiler is the most beautiful and magnificent breed there is. I must say that I’m biased, because I’ve had four in my life. It’s the only kind of dog that I’ve ever had. The journey that I shared with each of them what is a Divine gift from God. I took care of them in a way that very few people do. I fed them better then I fed myself. The last two I’ve had where rescues and I’m retired so I got to spend 98% of my time with them. I’m so grateful for each and every one of them as they help to shape the sensitive and gentle man that I am today. I thank God for them every day because they were my real true life guardian angels. I just lost my last one on November 9th, 2020 To cancer. It’s been about 3 months and I haven’t made it through a day yet without crying my heart out. His name was Titan and he was a 120 lb lovebug if you know what I mean. My heart is broken and my life feels out of balance. He had a profound effect on my life as the other three that preceded him did as well. He will probably be my last one because of my age and my underlying health conditions I probably will not get another one. I plan on going to the Rottweiler rescue where I got Titan from and volunteering to help with the dogs that are there. That will be my way of giving back as much as possible to This Magnificent and beautiful breed.🙏💔🐶

  • The original European mastiff was bred by the ancient Britons. These dogs are talked about by Julius Caesar and are probably the origins of the mastiffs used by the Romans in Europe. Many of our modern breeds are descendants of these dogs, but for some reason everybody only ever talks about Rottweilers and cane Corso‘s.
