Do you have any free Nicorette patches?

NRT should be used for 8 to 12 weeks, but it’s best to check the instructions that come with your specific product. Mild withdrawal symptoms can occur for some long-term NRT users when they stop using it. The long-term use of NRT is safe. As it only contains nicotine, it’s a much better choice than starting up again.

Everyone can get NRT for free from any neighborhood pharmacy. Additionally, your prescriber will be able to connect you to additional support as a result. Your chances of stopping and staying stopped will be improved by medication and support.

NRT works best when you begin from your “quit date”. NRT can be used in conjunction with “cutting down to quit” for a few weeks if you haven’t been able to or don’t want to stop smoking immediately on your target quit date.

It’s best to quit smoking without using NRT if you’re expecting a child. Your doctor or smoking cessation specialist might suggest using NRT if you’re having trouble quitting through willpower alone.

How much does a program to stop smoking cost?

Findings: The 163 people who were randomly assigned to receive stepped care spent, on average, $346 on smoking cessation services. This included $221 for computer-mediated assessments of readiness to quit and $124 for counseling, nicotine replacement therapy, and bupropion. 53 people used the cessation program. The total cost of mental health and smoking cessation services was $4805 in the stepped care group and $4173 in the brief-contact care group (not significantly different). The stepped care group had a 5% higher abstinence from smoking after 18 months of follow-up. The average price of smoking cessation services is $6204 for each quit attempt. Each successful quit cost $11 496 in cessation services and mental health care.

The cost of cessation services is $5170 per life year, and the combined cost of mental health care and cessation service
s is $9580 per life year, assuming that quitting smoking results in an additional 1 point 2 years of life. Even if quitting does not improve survival for those who are depressed as much as it does for other smokers, the stepped care intervention is likely to be seen as cost-effective.

The goal of smoking cessation programs is to save money. The cost, efficacy, survival, and quality of life variations among programs for psychiatric patients may have an impact on their cost-effectiveness. We assessed a program for smokers receiving depression treatment for cost effectiveness.

Design: 322 mental health out-patients who smoke were enrolled in a randomized trial that compared brief contact to a stepped smoking cessation program. We calculated the direct cost of the intervention. We used administrative databases and self-report to calculate the cost of mental health care because quitting smoking could affect how frequently people need to access mental health services in the short term.

  • I had a bf who smoked. He was the sweetest guy ever minus the smoking. I’ve never thought that dating someone who smokes would be a big deal, I never smoked in my entire life always hated the smell of it. I was getting upset and tired of the smoke clinging to my hair, and clothes my skin began to look horrible. I was even beginning to have sharp pains in my chest. it seemed like it was everyday that my eyes and nostrils felt like they were burning. I still put up with it for years until I began to try and convince him to stop, but that was because he began to breath harder than usual. We even had a big scare because the doctor told him he needs to get checked for cancer due to symptoms he was showing. I got very scared and I was crying nothing I told him helped. The good thing is that he was OK and had no cancer, but it didn’t mean he was healthy it was practically every day I was worried about his health. while still putting up with my eyes and nostrils burning everyday it was not a good feeling. I felt horrible everyday and having to wakeup and see if he was OK because he would keep complaining how his mouth hurt so much where there were times he wouldn’t even eat. He still did not want to let go of those cigarettes. After thinking and more thinking I decided to make the decision to leave him. I loved him, but I guess he loved those cigarettes more than anything else. He would get mad at me telling me that I thought I was better than him because of the smoking, but I don’t understand how that made me stuck up when I was there Infront of him crying to him that I was worried about his health and I didn’t want to see him hurting like that.

  • This lovely woman could have had a close to normal life if it wasn’t for the addiction. I feel bad, but I know that she realized her mistake, even if it was a little too late. I’ve never smoked, and I never will. She will be in my prayers and I hope she will live the rest of her life as healthy as possible.

  • I also started smoking at 13. At 14 I was buying my own cigarettes at the drug store for65 cents a pack. I quit at 33. I spent 22 years in the United States Army in some of the toughest units and I can tell you that quitting smoking was THE hardest thing I have ever done. It is a horrible, horrible habit. I haven’t touched one now for 14 years and I am proud of that achievement. Please, don’t smoke.

  • We are glad to hear that you are interested in sharing Terrie’s article to help educate youth about the dangers of smoking and tobacco-use. The easiest thing for you to do would be to copy and paste the direct hyperlink to this article into your powerpoint. Then when you’re ready to show it, you can just click on the link and it will take you directly to the article on YouTube.

  • Terrie, you didn’t know what you wee getting yourself into, but now knowing what can happen to people, it just made me cry and cry. When I saw a comment saying “R.I.P Terrie” I cried and prayed that you were still here, but sadly that could no longer physically be real. I tried to deny it in my mind but I saw you in my mind saying “Its okay.”. I know that you’re still here. I have been moved and want to stop people from smoking more than ever. You put your word out there, now its our own to pass along.

  • A month and 2 days ago my sister sent me this article after she had her baby, it completely changed my perspective of Cigarettes, i was smoking like a chimney, i was an addict i did everything she said i smoked everytime i had a meal or perusal a movie till the movie ended. cold turkey quitting is all about your mental, throw away your pack and forget about cigarettes if anyone is smoking near you walk away its not easy but if its about life or death what would you choose?. Thank you Terrie Hall, Thank you.

  • I quit on Tuesday 5th 2018 I woke up sick and tired of not being able to breath, stinking, always worried about were I was going to get my next smoke break . What really opened my eyes was helping a friend move last month I could hardly breath . We went on a trip to Hawaii last month as well . We had a layover in Sacramento I had to smoke so we went out past security and then tried to get back through and we’re stuck ! They wouldn’t let us back in because our tickets didn’t say Sacramento to Maui they said Seattle to Maui . We got lucky and got a very nice lady to reprint out tickets and got through security with only minutes to spare . All because of smoking we could have lost our trip to Maui . That’s nothing compared to what this poor woman is going through now I quit cold turkey on Tuesday I use the gum to help and it’s working! Please quit now !

  • God Bless you Terrie and I hope you inspired other people to quit smoking. I am 16 years old and have never smoked a cigarette in my life and I will NEVER smoke at all, but I have some family that do smoke and I have showed them this website on YouTube and thanks to your story. They have finally quit!!! Thank you!!! (:

  • The first time I smoked a cigarette was when I was forced to by my babysitter at the age of 7. I remember inhaling it and the feeling of my lungs hurting and the taste of ash in my mouth and being absolutely disgusted. In a way, it’s what stopped me from doing it with a group in high school to seem more “cool”. If the event hadn’t happened, I’m sure my deviant little self would’ve started smoking just to fit in. And before anyone says anything, yes, my parents found out and the situation was dealt with properly.

  • I saw one doctor who said that you need to try to quit and if you fail you need to keep trying and one day you will quit smoking… So I tried and after 7 days I start again. After 1 month I tried again to quit and after 2 days I start again. Few months later after I prepare mentally myself, I decided to try again… That was in June 2012, now is September 2013 and I proud to say I AM NON-SMOKER AND I FEEL GREAT 🙂

  • I have been smoke free since July 27th, 2012. A number of reasons attributed to why I finally stopped but shooting anti-smoking commercials and webisodes is definitely one of them. I feel better, my taste is back and I can work out longer at the gym. Now that I look back I can’t think of a good reason why I smoked. Please, if you are a current smoker whether socially or habitually please stop. There is no sense in it.

  • This is what happens 100% of the time if you talk when you have cigarette smoke in your lungs. I’ve been smoking for 7 years, but my voice hasn’t changed at all (I went and did the tests) Not to say it’s not bad, just to say that these articles show the extreme cases. Also, my grandma has smoked for 50 years (stopped on her own) and has no raspy voice from it. Considering her age, her voice is as clear as it always was. I am not justifying smokers, I am stating that cases like Terry’s are extreme.

  • woah i smoked my first at age of 14 but never got adicted only used to smoke like 5 cigs on the weekends when i got out with friends and that lasted for about 2-2,5 years. Next 4 years i paused/stoped smoking and now at 20 i take one cig when i’m like really upset which is extremely rare maybe once in month or once in two months

  • Ps. I feel great… yes, the sick and shaky feeling is not fun, but seriously, it only lasts about a week or so. Flu is much worse and you can get through that. Now into the 3rd week of freedom and everything is happier. I wake up happy… spend the day Happy and go to bed happy. I just couldn’t ever do that as a smoker.

  • I worked two jobs throughout the summer of 2016. One of them without being paid. I did this job because I wrecked two of my dad’s cars and had to work on cleaning his houseboat for rentals all summer. It was always late at night when I finished working on the boat, and afterwards I would smoke just one cigarette and I didn’t get why people do it. I get a little mellow after a smoke, but it wasn’t something I wanted to spend money and risk my health over. So I stopped.

  • Education on the dangers of smoking was not available 20 or 30 years ago like there is today. Today, almost everyone knows this can happen to them. When she started smoking, I’m sure there were designated areas for them to do so at school. The education was just not available. So someone picking up a cigarette at the age of 13 back then was not “stupid” or unheard of back then.

  • I haven’t had sex in over 10 years. I’m unemployed. I have next to no friends. I am very depressed. I started smoking cigarettes at the age of 24, to PURPOSEFULLY lower my life expectency (as well as drink HEAVY amounts of alcohol in all night binges). I think you have to have something worth living for first, before deciding you want to quit, otherwise I’m anxious to get off this planet sooner than normal.

  • It can; not as high of a chance as smoking a cigarette but still a risk as the CDC pointed out down there in the comments it contains 28 Carcinogens however tobacco ‘smoke’ contains 60+ carcinogens so while your chances are much higher of getting mouth/throat cancer(s) from cigarettes your are still increasing your risks by dipping. P.S. Chew is different then dip

  • I’ve known smokers who quit. Keeping their sense of humor was difficult. This song and its lyrics can help — “Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette- Smoke, smoke, smoke yourself to death. Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate you just hate to make him wait, but your just gotta have another cigarette.” Search: Tex Williams smoke smoke music

  • One month quit today, age 21. Her story is sad because this happens and has happened to so many innocent people. The public has knowledge about cig ingredients now. If you need help quitting, invest your attention into the economics, legislative, and medical propaganda of the tobacco companies. Her phusical state makes me scared about the future if i stayed with tje cigs, but reading up on the information about ingredients and absolute apathy from the companies helped me gain a second mindset out of my addicted habits. It is easier to quit if you learn about them rather than quitting out of fear on a whim. I have depression too, i can say that cigs dont ease the disease. It is a lie.

  • Im on 9th grade when I started smoking on a regular basis, I used to smoke 1 cig a day when I was 15 but, then after several months it became 2, then 3… Now I’m 17 and I smoke 3-5 times a day I smoke before going to school and after, it’s my daily habit, and stress reliever (i never smoked during Sundays), when on a party I can smoke about a pack(15-20 cigs) I also used to drink once a week with peers, it hasn’t affected my health lately, I’m still healthy plus the doctor said I had an outstanding vision of 20/13,…. Cigarettes is good for me, when I smoke I can think straight and I feel a sense of calmness, technically I’m not addicted to it I can stop whenever I feel to, i don’t know, i feel cool when i smoke

  • Ok you know what I am really concerned about one thing: the facts in this article. I mean yes, smoking is terrible, people start it for the most stupid reasons, and continue for the same stupid reasons. However, this article lacks horrendously of information. I know it is meant to freak people out and brutally throw them in the pit of reality, but it would be a LOT more helpful if it actually held some numbers concerning the number of cigarettes smoked/day, or illustrations of the effects of smoking

  • It’s not just tobacco that’s a problem – alcohol is far worse! Alcohol causes more deaths and misery than tobacco ever did. Alcohol is responsible for most cases of domestic violence, much of our street crime, many road deaths, hospital admissions and it causes millions of families to live in misery. At least smokers mainly affect themselves – drinkers affect other people! Who was ever attacked, killed or badly injured by a smoker! Yet alcohol abuse seems to be almost completely ignored!

  • Not guaranteed that cigarettes cause cancer why : I’m from Lebanon I live in Canada my neighbour in Lebanon lived 94years and he smoked 80 years when he was 14, 8 years before his death he got brain stroke which made him handicap until death and he didn’t die with cancer 👉🏿 my grandfather smoked 27 years the old rolled tobacco without filterless, and he quit 30 years before his death with heart disease, my 2 cousins were non smoker never smoked the one was died with stomach cancer and other still with kidneys cancer … 16 years old passed away with cancer he was cousin too … cancer is unknown reasons

  • My mum and dad will never stop smoking. They smoke too much I reckon(especially my mum). She says “oh I’m gonna quit starting tomoz” but then she is back on smoking again. I never believe her nowadays and I don’t want my parents dying young. There is nothing I can do… I also hate the smell of it and my lil sis is constantly around cigarettes and I don’t want her to end up like them

  • Let’s clear this up. Whether it’s one cigarette or forty a day; this can happen to you. Facts are not needed to prove anything. This was meant to show one of the many possible horrific outcomes after lighting up every day. Have some respect for a woman who strained to share her mutilated voice to help in the battle for widespread prevention.

  • I hate when people try to smoke for attention and for popularity. Smoking harms people. If your around it, it can harm you two. But that’s what the girl get for smoking. She’s telling us not to smoke but she did it anyways. She knows she has a hole in her neck.. so why keep doing it?People are weird these days😂

  • my brother is 18 and he is a smoker i try to get him to stop i knocked the ciggarette out of his mouth he just started punching me i try showing him this article i got my mom to quit but im just worried about my brother i want him to quit i sometimes cry and say i don’t want you smoking bro you need to quit im very worried that he is gonna end up like her don’t smoke if you do please quit 🙁

  • My brother it smoking I told him to stop he said yes but he is still smoking I really want him to stop but no he has been smoking for awhile He started when his friends forced him to His friend came with a cigarette in his hand I heard him say ( try it ) or something I really think it’s bad for his health Now he it getting mad at me and sneaking out of the house to smoke I feel like I cannot stop him I am only 10 and he is 24 he has been smoking when he was about 15-19 I don’t know really when but he was young My advice is DONT start AND If you do. Do everything to stop it sooooooooo unhealthy.

  • started crying at the end, smokers probably see this and yet still continue to smoke because they think this isnt going to happen to them, and its true that it doesnt happen to every smoker, or even every chainsmoker but youll never know if youre going to be like terrie one day because you thought it wouldnt happen to you. i wish i could beg everyone to stop but that wouldnt do anything. why do they even still sell cigarettes after cases like this, theyre selling you something thats expensive and toxic and you keep buying it, smoking it, damaging your own body, ill honestly never be able to comprehend it

  • it’s so unfair that some people can smoke for 50-60 years, and die of old age a natural death..while some very unlucky people can get such horrible illnesses early in life causing unspeakable suffering. looking at her you’d think she used to do crack or meth..when in reality her face and neck are literally burned from all the radiation, and surgeries.

  • A LETTER TO THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY You don’t always die from smoking. Sometimes, they just cut it out and you go on living. They might cut out your voice box and you get to live the rest of your life breathing through a hole in your neck. Using tubes to vacuum out your lungs so you have enough breath to get up to take a shit. OR you might get colorectal cancer in which case you won’t be able to shit either. In colorectal cancer they cut out your intestine and feed the end through a hole in your stomach. Because shit DOES have to go somewhere they place a bag over the end of the stoma and tie an elastic around it so it doesn’t leak. The tobacco industry is CRIMINAL. Every year, countless people (meaning it’s so common that they can’t keep track) are CRIMINALLY MAIMED by the tobacco industry. People argue that it’s a choice and that we can’t make it illegal because of “freedom of choice”. The more you know about Big Tobacco, the more you realize that they don’t want you to have a choice. They planned this in the 50s and 60s when cigarettes were advertised as “healthy alternatives to sweets” and brainwashed everyone into believing that “cool” sexy looking people smoke so they should too. There’s another angle too. The people who they are able to entrap become contributors to the lure of smoking for kids. If your father smokes and you look up to him, you will probably assume that “Daddy knows best” and that cigarettes can’t be THAT bad. They’re worse. It’s not even smokers’ fault. They are lured into trying it because they want to look older or “cool” or to be social and they become addicted.

  • The facts; she smoked up to 2 packs a day, are you kidding me?! I smoke socially once a week and it never becomes an obsession. Smoking is a jump start to your energy and aids with depression and has benefits to those who dont ABUSE it. This woman flat out abused cigarettes to the highest degree, and now she just died. I don’t feel sorry for her at all.

  • Terry should be an example, please quit smoking…you’re wasting your health, your lives and your fortune to tobacco companies and their executive elites who they live a dolce vita life smoke free with good food, beautiful women and travels around the world, your death is their life, please dont make a fool of yourself.

  • They sell it here all over the place . I get it at my convenient store for about 2.30 with tax included . Absolutely love this stuff . If im on the go I put this stuff in my upper lip and dont have to spit . Great flavor but most importantly its got really decent nicotine to it . Great review . Keep em coming ! Good job !

  • Never seen husky anywhere around here until yesterday. I bought it because the can looked cool. Wow. I’m glad I did because I’m really enjoying it. Opened it and it smelled great. More like Cope than any natural I’ve tried recently. Put a dip in and was genuinely impressed. Will definitely be buying again.

  • I found this stuff! They have at Smokers Friendly. I have to drive at least an hour to get to a Smokers Friendly, but hell I drive an hour to a Walmart. I travel to a “big town” every week or so for work. Love the cut, taste is close to Copenhagen Snuff, and less than 11 bucks for a 5 pack! I’m on about my 8th can and digging it. No more Kayak for this hillbilly!

  • OMG that’s happened to me like 3 times now. I ask for grizzly wintergreen fine cut and I end up with long cut. Pissed me off first time I just jammed it in my pocket and didn’t notice till I was down the road 2nd and 3rd time i made them get it right . Lol I live out in the sticks I stop at random places on my delivery route during the day and it’s usually some knucklehead doesn’t know anything about dip lol. Great review but can does look orange as all get out lol.
