The Shih Tzu dog breed has been documented for at least a thousand years. Even further back than that is the breed’s history. According to historical evidence, short, square “under the table” dogs were present in China as early as 1,000 B.C. C. These short, stout dogs were probably the Shih Tzu’s ancestors.
The Shih Tzu is a dog that is frequently associated with China, but it actually originated in Tibet, China’s western neighbor and a sovereign state until the 1950s. Probably as gifts, Tibet sent dogs to the Chinese royal family. After that, the Chinese crossed them with Pekingese or Pugs to produce the modern Shih Tzu.
Due to years of inbreeding, local Pekingese are thought to have a variety of health problems and other problems, such as constant shedding, a lack of intelligence, and a propensity for slipped spinal discs. Body type, face type, coat type, and temperament are the main distinctions between Shih
Tzus and Pekingese. Shih Tzu faces are rounder and less wrinkled than those of Pekingese. Additionally, they have a thicker coat, and the front of their bodies weigh more than the back. Shih Tzus shed very little and have long, silky coats. In contrast to the Pekingese’s bowed forelegs, theirs are straight.

My brother has a Shih tzu and I have a Pekinese. His dog is does not shed at all. My Pekinese sheds and I have to brush her every day. If you do not brush the Pekinese everyday you will have hair all over the place!!! However, I can groom the Pekinese easily but the Shih tzu needs a groomer, but I do think the Shih tzu is more active. My Pekinese is like a turtle she is so laid back and walks slow but I think she is the cutest thing ever!!! LOL!!!
