How Big Will An American Boxer Bulldog Grow

Expert’s answer:

The size of an American Boxer Bulldog can vary depending on several factors, including genetics and individual growth patterns. However, as both the Boxer and Bulldog breeds are generally considered medium to large-sized dogs, you can expect an American Boxer Bulldog to grow to a significant size.

According to the growth chart for Boxers, they tend to reach their full adult height and weight between the ages of 1 to 3 years old. On average, male Boxers can grow to be around 23 to 25 inches (58 to 63 cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 65 to 80 pounds (29 to 36 kg). Female Boxers are slightly smaller, typically reaching a height of 21.5 to 23.5 inches (55 to 60 cm) and weighing between 50 to 65 pounds (23 to 29 kg).

As for the Bulldog breed, males usually grow to be about 16 to 17 inches (41 to 43 cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 50 to 55 pounds (23 to 25 kg), while females are slightly smaller, reaching a height of around 14 to 16 inches (36 to 41 cm) and weighing between 40 to 50 pounds (18 to 23 kg).

Since the American Boxer Bulldog is a mix of these two breeds, you can expect it to fall within a similar size range. However, it’s important to note that individual variations can occur, and the size of an American Boxer Bulldog may also be influenced by other factors such as diet, exercise, and overall health.

It’s always a good idea to consult with a veterinarian for a more accurate estimate of how big your American Boxer Bulldog may grow, as they can provide personalized guidance based on the specific characteristics of your dog.

Are Boxer Bulldogs Intelligent?

Exploring the Intelligence of Boxers According to canine psychologist Stanley Coren, this fiercely devoted breed ranks 90th on this list of the smartest dog breeds, making them “average” in terms of this list. That’s not always a bad thing, either!

If you’re consistent with their training and properly socialize them, a boxer is one of the most affectionate, active, and loving dog breeds and can be an excellent fit for any home. Learn all about their personality traits and IQ in this article!

One canine psychologist named Stanley Coren noted that they are the 90th smartest dog breed, marking them as “average” in terms of this list, and they are more intelligent than you might think about this fiercely loyal dog breed. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, either. So how does one gauge a boxer’s intelligence?

Only one aspect of canine intelligence, known as working intelligence and obedience, was used by Coren to gauge how quickly a dog picks up new commands. He and the American Kennel Club (AKC) came to the conclusion that an intelligent dog has two characteristics: the number of times it takes for it to learn a new command and the likelihood that it will comply with a known command on the first try. A new command could be learned by boxers in 25 to 40 repetitions!

This is a photo of our Bulloxer puppy Kap’n Khaos when he was around three months old. He weighed about 65 lbs at the age of six months. and keeps expanding. Excellent personality and intelligence. Too smart, in my opinion. His father is a 110-pound registered American Bulldog. And his mother is a stunning registered brindle Boxer who weighs only about 45 pounds and is a little on the small side. He is being prepared to visit patients in hospices who could use a smile. I have faith in him, and I love how funny he is”.

What would a mixed Boxer/English bulldog breed look like?

The Valley Bulldog can have the appearance of a boxer or a taller version of an English Bulldog. Whatever the reason, this breed of dog is strong and muscular, with a broad head, thick neck, and a very broad chest and shoulder region. The snout is either very pushed in like the English Bulldog or sticks out a little more like the Boxer, and the eyes are rounded. The ears have a rose or button shape. The feet are substantial and thick. Either a very small screw tail or a brief, tiny stump characterizes it. Colors include different brindles, white with brindle, or any combination of brindle, black, white, tan, fawn, or red. The teeth and jaws of Valley Bulldogs are extremely strong, and they can have a mild or severe underbite.

The Valley Bulldog has a wonderful disposition and can get along with any other breed of dog as well as people (adults and children) when socialized appropriately and with an owner who knows how to be the pack leader. It can appear to be very gentle and calm one moment, then act very silly and playful the next. It enjoys being around its human owners and having a good time. Valley Bulldogs are intelligent and easily teachable in a variety of subjects. They make great indoor watchdogs and will bark at unfamiliar noises. This is a very strong dog and they love to go for drives in the car. Like all mastiff type breeds, the Valley Bulldog should have a dominant owner who can provide enough exercise. One who can give the dog the rules it must follow and the leadership it instinctually needs to stay balanced, in order to avoid any unwanted behaviors.

16 to 25 inches in length, an 18 to 24 inch neck, and a height of 12 to 25 inches (31 to 64 cm).

Boxer bulldogs: are they good pets?

Boxers can be good family dogs, especially when they are trained and socialized from a young age. However, the exuberance and tendency to jump in untrained boxers might be too much around young children.

Boxers are typically very loving and affectionate with their families. But they also can have a protective nature that must be managed through training and socialization.

Apartment living is acceptable for boxers as long as they get enough daily exercise and mental stimulation.

What does a Boxer and a American Bulldog mix look like?

The Bulloxer, a large, powerful breed with a square-looking head, short muzzle, wide chest, and a medium-sized tail that is occasionally docked, is a cross between an American Bulldog and a Boxer.

Fans of boxers and pit bulls may find a new favorite canine in the form of the bullboxer. This mix-breed dog combines two affectionate, high-energy breeds that love to put a smile on their families’ faces. There are many pros and cons to bullboxers, especially because – as with many mixed breeds – you never know exactly what temperament, appearance, or health you’re going to get. In modern breeding, a bullboxer could be a first-generation hybrid of its two different breeds or a second or even third-generation puppy. Additionally, pit bull mixes have stricter breeding and ownership limitations than other dog breeds depending on where you live. Sadly, these dogs are even banned in some states.

Regardless, bullboxers make excellent companions for the right owners who are willing to give them plenty of socialization, structure, and exercise. Read on to learn more about this breed and what to know when considering adding one to your household. These dogs are better suited for more experienced dog owners due to their willful attitudes. These dogs learn quickly and are eager to please. Without early socialization, these dogs can become aggressive and protective.

  • I had a boxer who lived to 14 years, 3 months. He had well over the required 40 minutes a day of exercise. I gave him at least 90 minutes a day off leash running and playing with his friends every day. Probably why he lived so long. I was sooooo glad to have my baby Csonka in my life. I miss him every day ❤❤❤

  • They weren’t that popular in the US in the 40,s. I’ve had Boxers since I was a kid in 65 and most people had no idea what they were. They were constantly mistaken as an American Bulldog even into the mid 70,s and later. Now you see them everywhere. The Wife and I are on our 4th pair and the ones we lost sit on our mantle. I wouldnt own any other breed.

  • Got my 1st boxer in 2022 a rescue dog, love her to bits not know why it took so long for me to get 1, having had labradors border collies, German shepherds and muts but everything you hear about this breed is true brilliant dogs all ready asked my kids for another for my 60th in a few years time. Great with my parents who are in their 80s, great with my grandchildren and keeps me busy. Only problem is she thinks she is a tiny lap dog and thinks it’s ok to fall asleep on my knee and go curl up on my feet when in bed, but wouldn’t change it for the world.

  • I could definitely tell they are mixed with terriers. I’m not “breedist” so I love all dogs lol but have rescued it jack Russells my whole life from SPCA and I can definitely see Jack Russell in the boxers that I see around the neighborhoods etc. if I ever can take care of a bigger dog, I will definitely rescue a boxer. To me they remind me of big jack Russell terriers.

  • We have a 7 year old female fawn, 70 pounds. Our vet was raised with boxers. Her quote was they are one of the most intelligent breeds, but are also goobers. Ours is more like a cat than a dog….she’ll be affectionate, but only on her terms, when she wants to, where she wants to. Our vet explained it as females can be independent. Best dog I’ve ever had.

  • I raised and trained Boxer’s for many many yrs, they’re such an awesome dog to have all of mine were calm and very well behaved, They ran as much as they wanted but they must be kept in door’s and not crated either, I’ve taken them back because of that don’t do it. All lived well pass their average life span last I had lived 14 yrs, They are prone to cancers and seizure and also hip dysplasia, vet care is nessesary and being careful with some flea and tick meds but again they’re a pleasure to own if you do right by them thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤

  • Hi there, I just got a boxer and she is 7wks old and has been vommitting all morning . She has thrown up at least three times with the first time being the largest and the others being a bit smaller., I did change her food because the owners were feeding her pedigree I keep hearing that I can make her rice and chicken but because she is only 7-was I did t want to take a risk by giving her real food. I saw your article in the Pepcid but she is too young for that isn’t she ? Please help if your able . I will take her to vet if she doesn’t stop . But she is a baby and I am concerned

  • You shouldn’t crop the ears or tail! What the hell! Chop off a part of the dog for some warped idea of what looks fashionable??? It’s completely illegal to do it in their country of origin.. i.e. Germany. I know, I live their and have 3 boxers with beautiful long floppy ears and tails that don’t stop wagging… why would you change that and risk injuring the dog???

  • If I could have one wish ( with the exception of my long gone mom ) it would be to have one more walk with my two boxers who have been in the big dog park in the sky for well over a decade. I remember coming home from work and opening the front door and they were both sitting there with their harness in their mouths blocking the hallway trying to force me to take them out so they could play with the young kids. They did this every work night for 10 years. I would ignore them and go sit on the couch and pretend like I’m sleeping because they knew I would never take them out until they put all of their toys away, so after 2 minutes of crying and stomping their paws they would round up all of the toys into their toy box, then come over and tap me on my leg until I made a big deal about how good they are, and boom the harnessing began which took like 2 seconds then out the door for play time with the kids.

  • I lost my boxer 10 months ago broke my heart, I miss her so much . I just can’t stop thinking about her we were so close we did everything together. I never dreamed you could love and be loved so much by a pet tears rolling down my cheeks as I type thinking of her and how much I miss her. I’m trying to put together a memory article of her and I’m having trouble figuring out how to add a song to the article. Boxer are one amazing animal they bond so close to their owners ! She was my best friend she was their for me through very bad times to comfort me after many surgeries . I pray she’s in heaven waiting on me.❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • I just got female, a week before christmas. They grow up so fast!!! Mine is already 14 weeks and 3 in a half months. Brock is so cute. 🙂 Uggh there always so cute when there just babies. 😛 Are they always playful? As much as when they are a puppy? I’ve heard there always going to be like a 2 year old! 😀

  • Hello dogfriends, we have “flor” our boxerpup now 5 months. He is full of love and always playfull. If we go for a walk everybody loves him and give him hugs while he is shaking his tail off. We always had german schepperds before, but if you are looking for a dog that loves his family and is great with kids go for a boxer bud go to a reliable kennel. Greetings from Belgium❤

  • Cooper is growing fast.. I got him, a beautiful rescue, at 6 weeks, 8 lbs. He is now 14 weeks, 20 lbs and full of energy. House borken and very smart. I do have to keep him in his ‘pen’ if I am not perusal, and take him out side to his ‘pee’ spot every ½ hr. And, its worked ! He is my frst boxer and I’m learning. He just developed a ‘cherry eye’ so off to the vet tomorrow to have it repaired….ho hum…

  • I have the female ver. of Brock. I love my boxer very much she gives me a reason to get up in the morning. But she is 12.5 yrs and is very healthy for her age and now we are fighting tumors and other things. If she wasn’t so heathy I wouldn’t fight to keep her going at her age she hasn’t given up on me and I wont give up on her loved your vids keep them comming.

  • My boxer is 9 months old and she isn’t growing, that’s what led me to this article..she’s pretty small, she has grown, she’s just not the size she should be at 9months. She was also the runt, and I also got her from these ppl who I’m pretty sure now are breeders..so maybe they lied about her age? I’m not sure.
